Event

Red Lantern to Red Hook
SPECIAL NOTE: This route has a fair amount of cobblestones so we walk our bikes a bit more than normal. It's still 95% biking and filled with tons of awesome stuff.  Just a heads up.

MODERATE TRAFFIC:  Moderate means that we ride in bike lanes and/or quiet streets for a significant period of time.  These are still VERY safe, recreation based rides, and large groups (8 and over) will have two cyclists with them; one in the front leading and one in the back bringing up the rear.  Also before every ride we will give you tips on how to ride responsibly in a group.

BIKE RENTALS ON SITE:  Not at this location.  Check Spinlister.com or Groupon.com if you yourself don't have a bike!

Join on us on a ride from Clinton Hill to Red Hook and back!  Starting location is Red Lantern Bicycles which in addition to being a great bike shop has an extensive coffee and beer selection at the front bar for pre and post ride treats.

During the two hour ride some of the attractions will include:

Vinegar Hill - A surprisingly quiet neighborhood stuck between an electrical plant and the Navy Yard.  We'll get a brief peek at the Commandant's House and talk about the role of the Wallabout Bay on the neighborhood.

Dumbo and Brooklyn Bridge Park - We'll see a waterfront being transformed into a green way, talk about the amazing (and may times) tragic story of the Brooklyn Bridge, and in addition to getting a great view of the Manhattan skyline.  Also, we'll find out where the cardboard box was invited.  Pretty epic.

Brooklyn Heights - The first suburb of New York and an amazing neighborhood filled with beautiful houses from every decade.  We'll talk about the Underground Railroad, Gypsy Rose Lee, and 19th century sex scandals.

Red Hook -  Down in Red Hook we'll see awesome views of the harbor, pre-Civil War era warehouses, old trolley cars and talk about it's past involving both the Cthulhu Mythos and Al Capone.  If you wish you also have the option of staying in Red Hook and exploring the neighborhood.  Or even spend 5 bucks at Ikea to take the Water Taxi to Manhattan for views of the harbor.

Greenway - And on the way back we have a nice smooth up the Brooklyn waterfront Greenway.  A nice easy, breezy and scenic way to end a sweet bike ride in Brooklyn!

Then back to Red Lantern!
