Improve your Bluegrass ensemble playing skills! Join us at the Dallas area Bluegrass Music Institute Bluegrass Ensemble 101 Camp! If you can play four chords on your instrument, you are ready for this camp. We will help you learn to interact with other musicians in the wonderful world of Bluegrass Music group playing. Learn singing, how to hear chord changes, jam etiquette, individual instrument breakouts, small group breakouts with coaches, how to lead songs, how to follow songs and more!
Price is only $350 for four days of jamming and education in an informal friendly setting with $50 discount for early signup. Location of the camp will likely be in the wonderful small town of Magnolia, Tx. Depending on the number of students, we have several camp location options arranged with onsite or nearby lodging and evening jam sessions.
Bluegrass Music Institute Director Andy Owens has been playing Bluegrass for over forty years and has played and taught hundreds of workshops in over fifty countries and is also an experienced ensemble instructor. Assistant Instructor Cameron Owens at the age of 23 already has 20 years of music playing experience. Cameron was playing bass professionally in Andy's band at the age of seven and has performed and taught throughout the USA and in thirty countries. Cameron is a senior in the East Tennessee State University Bluegrass Music Program and will soon graduate and start his fulltime career playing and teaching Bluegrass Music. Join us!

Bluegrass Ensemble 101
Length: Four Days, 9am to 5pm, one hour lunch break
Cost: $350 with early signup discount of $50
Prerequisite: Play one of banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar, dobro or bass at a proficiency level of being able to play four basic chords, such as G, C, D and E minor with the ability to change between them at the speed of a slow Bluegrass song. No jamming experience, musical notation or tab reading required. Course Content: Bluegrass Music ensemble techniques, beginner and intermediate. Jam Etiquette and beginner band concepts, basic Bluegrass rhythm, lead and harmony singing, learning to hear chord changes in traditional songs as well as unfamiliar songs, develop your own jam repertoire, learn to control volume, rhythmic and lead fills and dynamics, how to find people to jam with, how to lead a song, how to start a song, how to finish a song, individual small groups with experienced coaches, large group lectures on larger subject matter such as Bluegrass history and how it relates to how we play Bluegrass in an ensemble setting, individual instrument breakout instruction daily class and more. Students are put into small ensembles based on common skill levels.
Ongoing Educational Opportunity: Weekly Coach check-in lesson, a thirty minute Skype session with one of our coaches to keep your newly-learned skills fresh and to continue progressing. Cost-$20 per thirty minute session.
