Butcher Paper Dinner: Rooftop Crab Boil!
When we teamed up with Edible Queens last October to throw the inaugural Butcher Paper Dinner, we had no idea what to expect.  We'd been looking forward to it for months, and when rockstar chef Will Horowitz of the East Village's Duck's Eatery signed on to man the crab pot, we had a feeling we were in for a treat...

We knew we liked Chef Will right away when we jokingly suggested that we bring the crabs to the table in a wheelbarrow, and he was on board.  This guy -- this is our kinda guy.  And did we mention, he can cook!  With a Southeast-Asian-Cajun-influence and a decidedly-DIY vibe, Horowitz is a grower of mushrooms, a smoker of meats, a curer, pickler, fermenter and just generally a man who plays with his food.

For his Butcher Paper dinner, Chef Horowitz will be slinging fresh oysters, followed by a bountiful crab boil piled high along our enormous reclaimed-oak communal table. Stunning views of Long Island City and the Manhattan skyline will present a little eye candy to offset the savory feast.

Tunes will be spun throughout the afternoon and evening by celebrated DJ and saxophonist Neal Sugarman, co-owner of funk/soul label Daptone Records and resident of neighboring Sunnyside.

Basically, it's gonna be one heck of a party.

ABOUT BUTCHER PAPER DINNERS:
This series of fun, inventive dinner parties to be held spring through fall at Brooklyn Grange's flagship rooftop will center around the farm's massive, reclaimed white oak communal table down the length of which organizers will roll butcher paper.  A rotating lineup of the city's most innovative chefs will bring their unique culinary stylings to play with the farm's fresh, seasonal produce, serving family-style meals directly atop the paper-lined table.  This style of hands-on dining allows guests to really engage with their food, and their neighboring diners around them. Participating chefs will hail from all over the New York City area but will draw their inspiration from the eclectic diversity and bold flavors of Queens' signature culinary culture.

ABOUT EDIBLE QUEENS:
Edible Queens is the premier food magazine in Queens focusing on the culinary resources and food scenes of New York City's most diverse borough. Published quarterly and enjoyed in print and online by over 100,000 readers per issue, Edible Queens is part of Edible Communities, a North American franchise with 81 titles covering the specific regions in which they are located.

ABOUT BROOKLYN GRANGE:
Brooklyn Grange is the leading rooftop farming and intensive green roofing business in the US. We operate the world's largest rooftop soil farms, located on two roofs in New York City, and grow over 40,000 lbs of organically-cultivated produce per year. In addition to growing and distributing fresh local vegetables and herbs, Brooklyn Grange also provides urban farming and green roof consulting and installation services to clients worldwide, and we partner with numerous non-profit organizations throughout New York to promote healthy and strong local communities.

ABOUT FINBACK BREWERY:
Founded in 2011, Finback Brewery is born from a passion for brewing and experimentation. After a long search combing through back streets, along canals, under bridges and industrial no-mans lands, the brewery found a space at 78-01 77th Avenue in Queens, NY in 2013. Armed with a 20-barrel brewhouse, Finback released its first beers brewed in Queens in January 2014. The brewery is proud to call Queens home and become a part of the diverse and rich culture of the borough. They're excited to be one of NYC's newest breweries and to make NYC culture even better.

ABOUT HECTOR WINE COMPANY:
Hector Wine Company is a small, quality-driven winery located on the east side of Seneca Lake in Hector, NY. It's owned and operated by local viticulturist, Jason Hazlitt and winemaker, Justin Boyette. They began making wine in 2009 from grapes harvested at Jason's family business Sawmill Creek Vineyards and opened the tasting room across the street from the Vineyard in 2010. The philosophy at Hector Wine Company is that winemaking and grape growing are as much a creative endeavor as a scientific one. The crew at Hector Wine Company is committed to making distinctively high quality wines from grapes that are handpicked at optimal ripeness and manually hand sorted at the winery.  The tasting list includes mainly dry reds and whites, touched with a selection of off-dry and semi-sweet wines.  All aspects of production, from press to bottle, occur on-site; fostering the ideal that a world class wine is handled by its makers from start to finish.
