Summer Music Festival Gala Concert
Kenai Peninsula Orchestra performs Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" Barber's "Adagio for Strings" Tchaikowsky's "Symphony No. 4" Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" featuring Maria Allison, Piano
Maria Allison has been involved in the musical life of Alaska since moving to Kenai in 1979. She has performed many solo recitals and chamber music concerts on the Kenai Peninsula as well as elsewhere in Alaska and in the lower 48. She teaches private piano lessons and is an adjunct at Kenai Peninsula College. She was a longtime guest artist at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival and a faculty member of the Los Angeles-based Gold Coast Chamber Music Festival. Recent performances include chamber music with Madison Quartet, Trio Rara Avis, and Musica Borealis. Ms. Allison performed the Grieg Piano Concerto with the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra in 2009, and has soloed with KPO in the past. She accompanies for choral groups and festivals in the Kenai/Soldotna communities, accompanies for many high school students for ASAA music events, has played for numerous Kenai Performers' productions, and is a member of the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra and Redoubt Chamber Orchestra. She received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in music from the University of Nebraska, studying piano with the late Audun Ravnan. Her Alaskan musical mentors are Jean Brockel, Renee Henderson, and Dean Epperson. She and her husband, Tom, live in Kenai.
