In April, 2014, Karen Flewelling, drillingforhope.org, made her 16th trip globally, and 9th trip to Africa in service of others. During 4 weeks in Rwanda and Tanzania, Karen supplied villages and schools with 7 wells. She provided school supplies and school fees for 1 year to 153 of the neediest children in the villages she visited. She donated jerry cans to more than 1200 students so they could carry clean water home from the new wells. Additionally, she gave students and their families goats and chickens, and provided children with soccer balls and uniforms. She donated funds to cover the expense of 15 fistula operations, and gave a stipend for the remaining 5 years of medical school for a female student in Rwanda.
In Rwanda, Saratoga photographer Emma Dodge Hanson captured images of the life-altering impact of Karen's work: life-giving access to safe, clean water; life-changing access to education, school supplies, and domestic resources; life-affirming devotion to the service of others and fulfillment of their most basic, desperate human needs. In a world of humanitarian aid so often plagued by bureaucracy and inefficiencies, Karen Flewelling is a champion of doing all she can with everything she has.
Please join us from 6-8 pm on May 8, 2014 at the Spring Street Gallery in Saratoga Springs for the FACES OF RWANDA gallery opening, and fundraiser to benefit DRILLING FOR HOPE. Come. Contribute. Help Karen do more.
