Thursday, July 17, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. The Damariscotta River Association's Midcoast Music Fest at Round Top Farm (The first of three concerts of the Midcoast Music Fest). Featuring The Jason Spooner Band. Maine's best music, food, beer and oysters in the Darrows Barn, one of the region's most memorable performance spaces.
Portland, Maine's own Jason Spooner Band (Jason Spooner - guitar & vocals, Reed Chambers - Drums & Percussion and Adam Frederick - Bass & vocals, Warren Mcpherson - Keyboards & vocals) is in the midst of one of the band's most exciting musical growth spurts to date. The band's latest studio album Sea Monster has been featured heavily on Sirius/XM's The Loft channel, on NPR's All Things Considered and at over 11,000 Starbucks retail locations nationwide. At last year's festival the band's unique blend of roots, blues, funk and folk made dancing irresistible. Toward the end of the show, the entire audience was on its feet, yet a cross-breeze coming up from the river kept the barn cool. The band's website, The Jason Spooner Band, provides additional background on their award-winning sound.
The Beat Horizon, opens for The Jason Spooner Band. The Beat Horizon, formed in 2007, combines diverse musical influences to create a unique, high-energy sound. Funk, soul, reggae, ska, hip-hop, latin, afrobeat and straight ahead rock & roll all find their way into the mix. The core of the band is made up of performing veterans Dave Butts, Greg Goodwin, Tim Myers and Jojo Calavera. Danceable grooves and themes of social awareness/unity are a common thread throughout their original music, and feature heavily on their two album releases, "Gotta Come Together!" (2008) and "Through the Door" (2013). Whether sharing a large stage with a national touring act, or packed into an intimate club, The Beat Horizon never fails to get a crowd on its feet and moving. See more information at The Beat Horizon.
