Steps Beyond presents the Steps Repertory Ensemble in "Celebrate Dance"
The STEPS REPERTORY ENSEMBLE, the resident contemporary dance company of Steps on Broadway, under the Artistic Direction of Bradley Shelver, commissions internationally acclaimed choreographers, both established and emerging, to create new works and to re-stage repertory for the company. Company members, 10 in total, hail from all over the world.

Dancers:
Eddie Corley, Landes Dixon, Lane Halperin, Malik Kitchen, Carley Marholin,
Aurélien Peillex,Criss Rodriguez, Gabriela Soto, Katherine Sprudzs, Joseph Wamp

This season, the company performs works by acclaimed choreographers:

3114 BCE
Choreography: Bradley Shelver
Music: Maurice Ravel
Premiering at the REVERBdance Festival in NYC in 2010, 3114 BCE is the start of the 5000 year Mayan Calendar that was rumored to be the apocalypse of December 21, 2012. It is a commentary on the lack of human evolution, the idea that deep down, we have remained the caveman, craving nothing but food, sex and self preservation.

SHE AND HIM, HIM AND HER, HE AND I, US AND THEM (World Premier)
Choreography: Bradley Shelver
Music: Beethoven, Bach, Scarlatti and Chopin
Originally performed in an excerpted form for the Inaugural Brooklyn Dance Festival in 2012. The work is divided into four duets, exploring the emotional, physical, spiritual and hopefully the eternal bond in relationships.

PIGS AND FISHES (1982)
Choreography by:  Elisa Monte
Set By: Tiffany Rea-Fisher
Music by:  Glenn Branca
Costumes re-created by: Mondo Morales
Original Lighting by:  Craig Miller
This full company piece was the first major commission for Elisa Monte  commissioned by Alvin Ailey for his legendary troupe.  It is a powerful, driving piece focusing on the coming together of forces in the communal triumph of society and culture.  Pigs and Fishes is one of the most popular works from the repertoire of over forty works created by Elisa Monte

APEX
Choreography: Francesca Harper
Assistant to choreographer: Eriko Lisaku
Music: Rolf Elmer
"In the opaque world that is Apex, the dark- ness only reveals fragments of one's pure self. Time cycles and habits repeat until a conscious choice is made to find the missing pieces. Apex premiered in 2002 as part of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's 44th annual season at New York's, City Center Theater.

LIMBS THEOREM (part 1) (Excerpt)
Choreography: William Forsythe
Music: Thom Willems
Created in 1990 for the Ballet Frankfurt.

The season will also include guest performances by Complexions Contemporary Ballet and a new solo performed by Sidra Bell Dance NY*
