Great Mother Concert: Poems and Stories of the Sacred Feminine

A Great Mother Concert features readings of sacred poetry and stories of the Divine Feminine from many traditions, accompanied by the rhythms of Persian music. Three local performers, Suzanne Sturn, Bhavananda Lodkey, and Savarna Wiley will present the voices of the ancient goddesses of many cultures and a variety of mystic women and seekers both contemporary and classical on Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Pacific Cultural Center in Santa Cruz, with music by Amir Etemadzadeh and Nasirin Hosai.

The Feminine aspect of the Godhead as Mother, Beloved, Sister, Seeker and Bride is celebrated in the hymns of ancient Greece, traditional fairytales and mystical poetry of the West and the East, with a common theme of the interconnecting web of all life. Mother's Day weekend is a perfect time to recall and enjoy the poetic voices of Mirabai, Kali, Baba Yaga, Artemis, Emily Dickinson, Lalla, and many others in a fusion of poetry and story, presented with the accompanying rhythms of Persian music.
