JIM HURST GUITAR WORKSHOP | River Wind House
Enjoy two hours of personalized, hands-on instruction with modern guitar master Jim Hurst at River Wind House, a beautiful woodland retreat on the river! Learn a variety of rhythm and picking patterns for Bluegrass flat-pickers, and how they can be adapted to other music genres. Discovering how to play with dynamics more naturally and in support of a vocal or instrumental solos is vital to playing well with others, and developing one's own 'voice' on the guitar. 'Hands on guitar' instruction, attendees should know basic chords and some pickin'. Audio recording accepted for personal use only. No video recording allowed.

Jim Hurst's intricate, impeccable guitar style is an amalgam of influences  beginning with flat-picking greats like Tony Rice and Doc Watson, adding the finger-style playing of Merle Travis, Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed, seasoned with electric country and many other influences. Jim is a two-time winner of, and 2013 nominee for, the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) "Guitarist of the Year" Award.

Jim's winding career path has taken him from Holly Dunn's Rio Band to Trisha Yearwood, Sara Evans, Claire Lynch and The Front Porch String Band, and a groundbreaking collaboration with bassist Missy Raines. Since going solo in 2010, Jim has wowed audiences nationally and internationally with his astounding guitar work, soothing vocals, and his affable, gregarious personality. In addition to performing full-time, he's also in demand for projects with other bluegrass greats, most recently Rob Ickes and David Grisman.

When I met Jim Hurst for the first time last summer, I was almost surprised to discover he has just two hands. He sure plays guitar like he has a couple of extras, using a blend of flat picking and finger picking to play bass lines, melody lines and support lines all at once. David Morris in Bluegrass Today
