2nd Annual Laughing To Love Scholarship Show!!!!
On December 14, 2012, a small town most of us had never heard of had a nation mourning with them. A senseless act affected so many families across a small region, but affected the hearts of people everywhere. Every time a report would come on the news about Newtown, Connecticut I couldn't help but get choked up. I kept asking the same questions that everyone else was asking. I couldn't comprehend how and why anyone would do something like this.
If I was this sad about it, I can only imagine the extraordinary amount of grief that the families of those who lost their lives were going through. I sat down and had myself a good cry, but then I decided that was accomplishing nothing. I needed to do something about it. I started to think about how I could make something.... ANYTHING positive come out of such a horrible tragedy. I started to think about what I want when I am feeling down and the simple answer came to me. I always want to laugh. I love laughing. I love making others laugh. I also like the feeling of making a difference. I thought about HOW I could make people laugh and make a difference and started emailing my friends in the stand up comedy game. I emailed the owner of the club I work for. I spoke with people at the school I work at and spoke about what it would take to set up a scholarship. A scholarship that will celebrate the lives of those lost on December 14th.
On April 18th I will be putting on a comedy show at The Spot Underground in Providence, R.I. 100% of the proceeds will go towards money for a scholarship that will be given to high school seniors. Performances by Brian Beaudoin, John Porch, Rob Greene, T.J. Curran, and Dan Curran. The scholarship will be given in the memory of the 26 people who lost their life at Sandy Hook Elementary School. I want to make a positive out of such a tremendous negative. A glimmer that there are good things in the world, even if we are doing it in such a small way. If you can come to the show on
We want to raise as much money as possible where we can give one or two scholarships to deserving high school students in the New England area. I hope you will help us on this journey. A journey that will simply help people that may have lost their ability to smile, regain it for a moment or two. Not to sound completely cliché, but I want to simply turn those frowns upside down. I sincerely thank you all for any consideration and support!
Sincerely, Dan Curran Knockdown Stand-Up
