Folk stalwart Rod MacDonald sums up his music as "Something to touch your heart, something to awaken your spirit, something to tickle your funny bone, something to make you a little more conscious of your role in life."

Emerging as one of the driving forces of the 1980s Greenwich Village folk scene that spawned Suzanne Vega, John Gorka, Cliff Eberhardt and others, Rod has been entertaining audiences worldwide for four decades with timeless ballads, modern folk songs, and topical commentary. Rod is a master at weaving together a tapestry of politically and socially aware journalistic detail and poetic imagery, offering up performances that are both entertaining and deeply thought provoking.

An incredibly prolific writer, he has produced so many enduring classics (including "American Jerusalem" and "Sailor's Prayer") that no fewer than twenty-seven of his songs were included in the Smithsonian Folkways Fast Folk Music Collection.

Rod will be accompanied tonight by bassist Mark Dann who can be heard on recordings by Pete Seeger, Richard Shindell, Jack Hardy, and many others.
