Andy Irvine
Celebrating the recent release of his critically acclaimed CD, 'Parachilna,' one of the truly great Irish singers, among the handful that get s to the very soul of Ireland, Andy Irvine returns to our area. Hailed in the Irish Press as 'a tradition in himself,' Andy's highly individual performing skills have been cheered audiences around the world from the mid-60's with the groundbreaking band Sweeney's Men, the enormous success of Planxty in the 70's to the Irish supergroup Patrick Street from the 80's and currently with the world music powerhouse Mozaik. As a soloist Andy fills the role of an archetypal troubadour reflecting his travelling lifestyle and life-long influence of Woody Guthrie in a rich and varied program of traditional Irish songs, dexterous Balkan dance tunes and a compelling canon of self-penned compositions. As the Sydney Morning News observed, ' What makes an evening with Irvine so special is that every note he picks and every line he sings comes from the heart. Everything he touches is performed with honesty and conviction and his playing is never less than breathtaking, By any measure Irvine is one of the towering talents on the international folk scene.'
