THE SHOW

This hybrid performance takes the audience on a thrill ride of Acrobatic Feats and Live Music - following several SOULS as they journey "From Darkness Into The Light" led by the high powered vocals of a SHAMAN - Shakers front-woman JODIE SCHELL. Together they must face the sinister power of KALI - an enigmatic being who serves as the catalyst for their adventure. The Souls must rise above their limitations in order to join the LIGHT BEARER, who illuminates the way to transcendence.

This turbulent production completely surrounds the audience, with aerial daredevils dazzling directly overhead on silks, hammocks, straps and hoop, while one of LA's hardest rocking bands tears through their songs mere inches from the crowd.

THE JOURNEY

Back in November of 2013, JORDANN BAKER assembled a small group of collaborators and presented the seed of what would eventually become Shapeshifter. What followed were weeks and weeks of putting this fantastic puzzle together. As the story coalesced, so did our ensemble of amazing talent, and soon more than a dozen artists had joined the Shapeshifter family.

THE FAMILY

Producing this show is the culmination of years of creative partnerships and nearly 6 months of concept development.  This show has been enthusiastically produced by Jordann Baker, Tongue & Chic (Brian Gillespie, Brent Kyle & Tyler Benton), and Graham Skipper.  We are honored to have the following amazing aerialists in our show:

Sita Acevedo: Born and raised in Los Angeles, movement artist Sita Acevedo has graced the stage for nearly 2 decades. With a BFA in dance performance, she has worked with Diavolo Dance Theater, and was an original cast/creation team for the Cirque du Soleil production "KA". Other credits include Cirque Berzerk, Cher show, and the film "Water for Elephants". She seeks to continue researching and evolving new movement pathways.

Jeffrey Little: Jeffrey hails from Louisiana and discovered his love of circus in 2011.  For him there is no better way to express himself than through the art of movement.  Through the medium of circus, he hopes to offer each audience the opportunity to escape into another world and experience their dreams in something extraordinary.

Terril Teran: Terril loves all things aerial and began her flying career in 2000. She is inspired by the creativity and effort  that goes into all aspects of live performance and is honored to be a part of Jordann's artistic vision.

Rachel Tatem: Rachel spent most of her childhood and college years as a competitive gymnast.  Needing a suitable replacement, she stumbled upon circus arts in 2011 and has been crazy about it ever since.  She loves how the circus combines athleticism, strength, and tricks with creativity and artistic expression.  She is excited to explore that creativity even further as part of the Shapeshifter team.

Hope Hall: Hope's path to the world of aerial arts was circuitous.  She was a gymnast in college, but strayed from the fold when she discovered triathlon.  After competing in 13 Ironman races, she found that her creative side was not terribly stimulated by the swim-bike-run combination.  She rediscovered her love for being in the air 6 years ago when she saw a video of roll-ups on straps.  The combination of strength and fluidity reignited her creative fire.  Since that moment, Hope found her new passion.  She dedicated her athletic endeavors to the aerial arts and has performed in a number of shows on aerial straps as well as partner hand balancing.

Jordann Baker:  Jordann began her career as an aerialist in 2006 in New York City, where she later co-founded the Sky Box Aerial Theater and choreographed and performed in numerous original aerial productions.  She has flown at Bonnaroo Music Festival, with Mexico's Dzul Dance Company, in the World Famous Spiegeltent, and in El Salvador, Hawaii and Dubai. Jordann is inspired by dramatic architecture, powerful music and giant trees, and feels most happy when she is thirty feet up in the air!

And, of course, none of this would be possible without the inspiration for this show, the music and souls of the rock band, THE SHAKERS!

THE SHAKERS

Just when you thought every musical hybrid had been realized, LA's THE SHAKERS have emerged as the missing link between soul and grit-rock. Previously described as "The Black Keys meets Heart" or even "AC/DC meets The Supremes," The Shakers are able to peak potential listeners' curiosity without even requiring the proverbial "listen." All comparisons aside, the 4-piece outfit has created something truly original and charismatic  a brand of modern music that the ill-remaining music industry has been so desperately aching for. Loud, unapologetic, and masters of the stage domain.
