John Batdorf with special guest Jim Dawson
John Batdorf's music career began in the 70's as a recording artist with Batdorf and Rodney and Silver. He made records and toured this country and Canada for most of the 70s. The duo headlined many shows, but also opened for the likes of America, Seals and Crofts, Dan Fogelberg, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers, Hall and Oates, Cheech and Chong, Harry Chapin, Kris Kristofferson and many more!

Throughout the 80's John served as a staff songwriter, writing songs for (among others) America and Kim Carnes, and as studio singer who lent his voice to hundreds of jingles, movies, and TV shows. You've heard his background vocals on some hit recordings by Rod Stewart, Motley Crue, Dave Mason, Eric Anderson,The Jefferson Starship, Berlin, Donna Summer, Dwight Yoakum, and David Lee Roth  to name a few.

John produced records and commercials in the 90s. He also began collaborating with Michael McLean, which led to four CDs releases. In 1996 John was asked to score the CBS TV prime time show, "Promised Land", which led to his work as composer of the music featured in the highly successful series "Touched By An Angel". "The Best Two Years", which John scored and co-wrote songs for with Michael and Scott McLean, had a successful theatrical run in 2004, and is now available on DVD.

In the first decade of the millennium John recorded a CD with James Lee Stanley "All Wood And Stones" - a highly original take on early Rolling Stones songs, done acoustically with tight harmonies. His first solo EP, "Side One" soon followed, as well as his first full length solo CD, "Home Again". The 2008 CD, "Still Burnin'" saw John teamed up again with Mark Rodney. The duo recorded a live show at XM Studios in Washington D.C., where they revisited many of their great songs from the 70s, and also recorded two brand new songs for the release - the first new Batdorf and Rodney recordings since 1975.

In June 2009, John released his third solo CD, "Old Man Dreamin'," which got rave reviews and extensive radio play, established John as a highly talented solo artist. In May of 2011, Batdorf and Rodney were elected into the 'Las Vegas Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame'. In the fall of 2011, John released what is arguably his finest solo CD, "One Last Wish". He has also produced "Portfolio", a two-disc compilation of some of his finest songs from the Batdorf and Rodney years. John and James Lee Stanley have also recorded and released "Soundtrax 2 Recovery" a collection of songs to help heal and bring hope to the recovering addict.

When you hear John sing songs about things that really matter to him, you'll understand why they also mean so much to the many fans that have followed this talented musician for over four decades.
Jim Dawson's illustrious recording career began at the turn of the 1970s. Since then, his songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as Mary Travers and Elmo from Sesame Street. But Jim's light shines brightest in concert, when he puts his own voice behind his brilliant, emotional songs.

In 1971, Jim Dawson's "Simple Song", from his debut album "Songman" became an anthem for listeners looking for healing and gentleness after a decade of war and protest. His follow-up album,  "You'll Never Be Lonely with Me, followed the same year and produced some of his most memorable songs.

Jim played sold out shows at legendary venues like the Bitter End, My Father's Place and the Schaefer Music Festival.

After his fourth LP, 'Elephants in the Rain" Jim took a break from the music business, but he returned to the New York club scene in 1978. His long-awaited independent release from that era introduced a young Lucy Kaplansky in one of her first recording sessions.

Jim also started a series of "studio concerts" in his apartment; inviting fans to come by for a night of live music. Recordings from these unique shows resulted in the live album, "Therapy in Session". Upon its release, Billboard magazine ran an article about this innovative approach to making CDs without involvement by the big music companies. A novel idea at the time, this has now become the chosen method of CD production and release for what groups and performers that they now label "indie" artists.

In 2000, Jim record and produce new and reinterpreted versions of the songs from "Songman". These classic compositions were given an entirely fresh and new sound and feel. His most recent release is the 2012 CD "Little Off the Road Motel". Jim has written a number of new songs since the release of that disc, and he will be performing many of them at this evening's performance.  The evening will be hosted by Tony Traguardo, and will be broadcast live over WCWP radio (88.1 FM).
