Bus Trip to the Smithsonian FolkLife Festival in Washington D.C.
Join us as we partner with Susquehanna Folk (sfmsfolk.org) and travel to the annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival, held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., rain or shine. At the festival, you will find many diverse, authentic, living traditionsboth old and new. The focus this year is on both China and Kenya.
The China program will feature seasonal festival traditions, share the meaning and preparation of Chinese foodways, and engage visitors in craft and performance workshops. It will present exemplary, contemporary artists in some of the region's oldest traditionsfrom kite-making to calligraphy, martial arts to Mongolian long song.
The Kenya program offers a chance to interact with exemplary craftspeople who work with everything from clay to soapstone to recycled materials, learn about important fossil discoveries by taking part in a model dig site from the Great Rift Valley, run with Kenya's Olympic athletes, dance to both traditional and contemporary music from many regions of the country, discover how Kenyans live among and work with some of the most magnificent wildlife on the continent. Price includes: round trip motor coach transportation from Camp Hill, boxed continental breakfast served en route to Washington, D.C., free time to explore and participate in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and gratuity for bus driver. The bus departs from the Camp Hill Radisson's parking lot at 8:30am. On the way home, we will make a stop for dinner on your own. We will return by 9:30pm. Cost: $42.00 per person.
