In Search of Mirage

Mausaki in association with AID, Center for South Asia, Stanford and Amarrass Records presents another one of its kind Sufi Folk concert. 'In Search of Mirage' is an attempt to introduce Indian Folk music to bigger audience in a modern form. Barmer Boys from Rajasthan, India will be collaborating with Eastern Brew, a sufi fusion rock band from the San Francisco bay area.

Featured on Season 3 of Coke Studio on MTV India, Barmer Boys represent the next generation of folk from India. Folk with attitude. 21st Century folk. Barmer Boys are a trio led by the vocal powerhouse of Mangey Khan and percussive antics of Rais Khan (morchang, bhapang, khartal, beat-boxing). Barely in their 30's, and yet seasoned performers, they carry forward the centuries-old musical tradition of the Manganiyars and are leading examples of Rajasthani folk and Sufi music. Their music is a harmonic blend of distinct performance styles and personalities, and melds Sufi, qawwali and folk traditions of the Indian sub-continent.

Eastern Brew renders contemporary music from the Indian subcontinent with a unique fusion flavor. This is a group of passionate musicians who have been actively performing locally as well as internationally. They derive inspiration from various forms of world music such as Indian Classical, Sufi, Classic Rock, Pop, Jazz, RnB and Funk.

Eastern Brew found their calling after their first experimental show, mixing poetry and sufi music back in August of 2011. Since then Eastern Brew has been a part of many events, notably opening for Shankar Tucker in September 2013 and an elaborate poetry and music and theater fusion concert event "Sadho Re" in March 2013.
