Taste, Touch, See
The Girl Choir of South Florida will present "Taste, Touch, See". While music is primarily an auditory experience, vocal music, because it includes text, is unique in that it can express and explore senses beyond sound. In this program, we will provide audiences with a chance to "taste", "see", and "feel" music, as conveyed through poetry in song. Each choir will explore these senses through a variety of works from composers ancient to modern, and from many cultures. Selections will include a diversity of repertoire-from a setting of "Beautiful Soup"( from Carroll's Alice in Wonderland), to Z Randall Stroop's "I Had a Paintbox", an exquisitely descriptive piece that uses the idea of color to capture emotion; from Béla Bartok's Hungarian folk song "Bread Baking", to a rollicking vocal jazz piece entitled "Chili con Carne". To open this program, all of our choristers will join in song to present an original work arranged by Gayle Giese, one of our GCSF accompanists. Lighting, movement, and staging will be used to enhance the experience for listeners and choristers alike.
