Hatch: A Festival of Devised Performance
OUR PROJECT:
We are hatching a new festival in San Francisco this April!
Hatch: A Festival of Devised Performance is a weekend of performances featuring 7 brand new pieces. The pieces will explore the theme of meltdown; emotional meltdowns, nuclear meltdowns, economic meltdowns, meltdowns caused by natural disasters, etc. Each piece will be curated by a member of Hatch. The curator, using their unique lens, explores the theme of meltdown with their ensemble of performers. The raw material generated by the group is then arranged and polished by the curator into an original, ensemble-created performance piece.
On the last weekend in April, you will have the opportunity to witness all of our works together under one roof!
WHO WE ARE:
Madeline HD Brown, Christine Crowley, Emlyn Guiney, Julie Katz, Rebecca Longworth, Adam Sussman, Casey Van Portfleet, Nichele Van Portfleet, and Lili Weckler
We are a group of art-makers and performers from various backgrounds, including dance, physical theater, music, and improvisation. We come together with a shared passion for devised work, meaning performances that are generated by the ensemble in a collaborative way. Because we are all so different, we celebrate and learn from each other's unique aesthetics by creating a communal performance laboratory, in which each member is given the opportunity to develop a piece with the support of the group. We offer workshops to the group in our areas of expertise, we perform in or attend each other's pieces, and we show each other our work and receive comments and ideas.
