The Lilies of the Field
Set in the American southwest in the mid-1950's, Homer Smith - a black Southern Baptist itinerant worker who values his independence more than anything else - encounters a group of German immigrant Catholic nuns working in the dusty fields and offers his help for a day's hire.
His offer is quickly accepted and soon turns into much more than he bargained for. Mother Maria Marthe, convinced that Homer was sent to them by God to build them a chapel, persuades him to stay (without pay) and take on this seemingly impossible task. With no money, no bricks, and no real prospects for success, the faith of all will be tested, in the end proving that both friendships and miracles come in all forms.
