BUMPER JACKSONS The Bumper Jacksons are a big, fat party (you know this for sure if you attended our New Year's Eve Party, the Bootlegger's Ball). Hot and sweet, their trad jazz and pre-war country repertoire paints America's story, from New Orleans' brothels to Appalachian hollers. Unafraid to scrap together new sounds from forgotten 78's, the Bumper Jacksons boldly and elegantly balance paying homage to the traditions while fashioning their own unique DIY style.
While the Bumper Jacksons may have formed in 2012 in Baltimore as a duo, they've since expanded to a powerhouse sextet wielding washboard/clarinet, guitar, bass, trombone, pedal steel and "The Suitcase," a homemade contraption built from everyday items to produce the band's bedrock of percussion. Their new album "Sweet Mama, Sweet Daddy, Come In" precisely showcases this great new band of awesomeness.
Engineered by the esteemed Charlie Pilzer of Airshow Mastering (best known for his Grammy-winning work on the Anthology of American Folk Music) the new album brings a whole lot of enjoyment to the table. Come enjoy these fun tunes with us!
THE GREEN BOYS The Green Boys are a four-piece band based out of Richmond, Virginia. Equally mislabeled as bluegrass, folk, or honky-tonk, the boys sometimes mention the idea of being a part of a "country-revival". It's a half-serious notion that nonetheless approaches the crux of the band's complex sound. Their live show is a trek through low-tempo lap steel melancholies, banjo and mandolin barnstorming, and jug band sing-alongs. The Green Boys flirt with many genres, yet the focus never strays far from their goal. The melody, the lyric and the feeling assembled into the band's small contribution to what they feel is a national revival of a simple ideal: the songwriter is the singer, the sound is the way it feels, the words, simple too, are the way it was and is.
