Romney Lecture Series on Spirituality and Social Media: Rachel Held Evans - LUNCH
Seattle First Baptist Church will be hosting Rachel Held Evans for the next Romney Lecture on Spirituality and Social Media.  Rachel will be here the week after Easter.  She will be speaking on Saturday morning (April 26th)from 10:00 am to noon.  The lecture is free and open to the public.  There will be a lunch that follows, which requires an RSVP on Brown Paper Ticket. Rachel will then be preaching during our regular worship service on Sunday (April 27th).
Rachel is an award-winning author and popular blogger with over a quarter of a million visits to her blog each month.  She's been featured in interviews on The View, The Today Show, NPR, Slate, The BBC, The Washington Post, The Guardian (UK), The London Times, The Huffington Post, and Oprah.com. And in October of 2012 she appeared on the cover of Christianity Today as one of "50 Woman to Watch...those most shaping the church and culture."
As a speaker, Rachel's content is well researched and accessible, her delivery fresh and funny. Her youthfulness makes her relevant to the young and old alike. She speaks out of her own experience of growing up in a very conservative church tradition, which led to a crisis of faith during her college years. She now communicates with an appreciation for her foundation of faith while addressing an honest look at what scripture and the Gospel of Jesus really says to us today.
Rachel is a skeptic, a creative, and a follower of Jesus. She hails from Dayton, Tennesseehome of the famous Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925and is a lifelong Alabama Crimson Tide fan. She is happily married to her husband Dan.
As a learning community who strives to tell the stories of who we are, and to hear the stories of others, Rachel will have a lot to offer us during her visit as she considers all of this work in the context of social media.
