Take the Ride of Your Life, Part 2
Take the Ride of Your life on April 25th at 7:30PM PianoForte Studios, 1335 S. Michigan Avenue and on April 26th at 7:00PM The Venue at Daystar, 1550 South State Street.
SongShop is an on-going collective process, committed to truth-telling through song. SongShop expands the performers' expressive capabilities using theatrical exploration of character, emotion and story. SongShop creates a workshop environment to nurture risk-taking and confidence, with each member serving as performer, guide and audience.
SongShop director Claudia Hommel brings to student and adult singers more than three decades of stage and song career. She approaches each student and each song with insights and energy that come from her own studies with international singer Martha Schlamme, actor/director Alvin Epstein, music director Steve Blier, voice teacher Roberta Vatske, various Shakespeare workshops, Art Song sessions led by Dalton Baldwin, Meisner technique studio work, and dance.
Every year, Claudia Hommel's SongShop participants base a two-act, two-night concert around a theme, shedding new light on a common human experience. This year is all about the bumpy road of life and the adventures in taking the path less traveled. From jazz to Broadway, from pop to classical, the art of the song and its story will take center stage.
