Prevention at the Intersections - Violence Prevention Training for Human and Public Service Professionals
Join us for a unique opportunity to learn from local and regional leaders on cutting edge strategies in Violence Prevention. Hosted by Dr Crystallee Crain of California State University - East Bay & DeAnza College, participants will learn how to utilize current research and policies in their practice as human and public service practitioners.


This spring Prevention at the Intersections will offer three day-long sessions to community members and local practitioners in the East Bay. The sessions are listed below.


1. Introduction to Community Development and the Field of Violence Prevention

2. Intervention Strategies and Building Healthy Communities

3. Intersectionality Based Policy Analysis: Understanding the breadth and depth of violence

Introduction to Community Development and the Field of Violence Prevention

Utilizing  models of community development to understand the social, economic and political connections of violence prevention policy in urban communities.

Landscape of Community Based Violence Prevention Practitioners - Overview of the actors and organizations involved in the field of violence prevention, including community based and grassroots organizations and public agencies, such as county government, schools and school districts, and local police and sheriff departments.


Intervention Strategies and Building Healthy Communities

Strategies Toward Preventing Violence and Building Healthy Communities  Overview of violence prevention theories and the intervention strategies that emerge from their practice, such as restorative justice, street outreach as a methodology, community development, conflict resolution and case management.


Intersectionality Based Policy Analysis (IPBA): Understanding the impact of violence

In this component of the curriculum Intersectionality Based Policy Analysis will be used as the framework for understanding a wider range of impact of community and state violence.

By utilizing the analysis framework of IPBA participants will learn how to examine their role and responsibilities in the field of violence prevention and the ways in which their work, praxis and belief systems impact their effectiveness; Participants will explore intersectionality as a theory and philosophy to inform inclusive practices in human and public service.
