QQA's 50th Spring Tour of Homes
Arkansas Governor's Mansion Historic District
Little Rock, AR
Share this event:

Honorary Co-Chairs Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe and P. Allen Smith and the Quapaw Quarter Association Board of Directors invite you to join us for the 50th Spring Tour of Homes this Mother's Day weekend, May 10-11, 2014.

The Quapaw Quarter Association's mission is to promote the preservation of Little Rock's architectural heritage through advocacy, marketing and education.

The Spring Tour is the QQA's oldest function. Since 1963, the tour has been staged for the purpose of fostering appreciation of historic buildings and neighborhoods and the need for their preservation.

On this year's tour, the Arkansas Governor's Mansion and five houses on surrounding streets will be open to the public for tours.  This year's tour houses are:

The Mayer Cottage 1937-38
317 West Seventeenth Street

The Pierce House c. 1881
1704 Center Street

The Turner-Back House 1884-85
1722 Center Street

The Caruth-Cochran House c. 1882
320 West Eighteenth Street

The Old Methodist Parsonage c. 1927
401 West Eighteenth Street

On Saturday evening, May 10, guests will enjoy a candlelit tour of the homes while enjoying cocktails and canapes, then have dinner in the Grand Hall of the Arkansas Governor's Mansion.

On Sunday, May 11, all are invited to tour the houses.  The QQA will also provide lawn games, kid-friendly activities, food vendors and trolley rides.

The tour is self-guided; the QQA will provide maps and house information, and several docents in each home will help guide guests and provide more information.  Parking will be available on neighborhood streets.

The Spring Tour has proven to be one of the QQA's most effective methods of changing negative perceptions about the Quapaw Quarter and for recruiting new residents to the area.

The Spring Tour:
Has been held almost annually since 1963
Builds pride and confidence in local historic neighborhoods
Encourages continued investment
Educates residents and the public about the varied stories of Little Rock's neighborhoods
Produces printed educational materials
Recruits new residents
Brings over 1,000 people, including elected officials, to the area to see its value
Attracts extensive media attention
Is usually associated with MacArthur Park and the Governor's Mansion Historic District, but has also been held in Capitol View; Hillcrest; the Centennial Addition; and Park Hill, North Little Rock
