SAVAGE Dance Festival

SAVAGE: The Official Dance Tournament was created by SKilled Productions in 2013 with the condition of the Michigan Dance Community in mind! Originally, SAVAGE was an intense competition series that was intended to push dancers pass the boundaries of technique and raw talent, forcing them to search inside themselves for true artistry. The main objective was to turn gifted dancers into thriving artists by defying the dated traditions of typical competitions and allowing passion to persevere. In doing so, we felt as though we were not only revitalizing the dance community but we were encouraging progression amongst the dancers who create it.

After careful observation of not only our 1st event but of the dance scene's current condition, we have decided to take a more direct approach by broadening our horizons and reaching out to more facets of the dance community. SAVAGE Dance Festival will bring together every facet of our community by inviting everyone to participate. SAVAGE will now have showcases from up and coming and well known choreographers, crews and companies alike, presentations and showcases from colleges, performance evaluations for studios and high school companies, and of course, THE DANCE TOURNAMENT that"ll determine Who's the BEaST?

SAVAGE Dance Festival's primary purpose is to provide knowledge about the various dance organizations and supporters in Michigan & to unify them all at once. By creating a platform for studios, high schools, colleges, choreographers, crews, companies and dancers in general, we provide both an opportunity and a chance to show each other the infinite possibilites amongst us all along!

PRE-PROFESSIONAL DIVISION

Performance Evaluations

This level consists of high school dance teams and companies, studios and competition teams. These types of organizations may perform in this level but have the option of competing in the tournament if they choose to do so. Each group of at least 2 performers will showcase a piece of their choosing. They may dance in any style they please. After all of the groups perform, the adjudicators from the tournament will evaluate their overall performances. Two pieces will be selected to showcase their work the following day during the actual dance tournament. There will be college representatives at the event for recruitment opportunities.

PROFESSIONAL DIVISION

Showcasing

Some crews, companies and choreographers will be selected to showcase their work. Additionally, there will be performances from college dance companies. If you are interested in simply showcasing as oppose to competing, contact SAVAGETOURNAMENT@GMAIL.COM immediately due to finite showcasing spaces.

SAVAGE Dance Tournament

The new format for the tournament is as follows:
There are 3 categories:

WILD
(This category consists of hip hop, street jazz, jazz funk and all of the variations of them.)

BEASTLY
(This category consists of Modern, Contemporary, Lyrical, Jazz and all of the variations of them.)

and FEROCIOUS
(This category consists of any style that could not be considered one of the styles in the other categories. i.e African, Classic Ballet, bollywood, or Folkloric.) Unfortunately, TAP DANCE IS NOT ALLOWED!

To compete, you must have at least 2 dancers and no more than 30. No rounds or battles will take place throughout the tournament. A piece may be at least 2 minutes and up to 6 minutes long.

Each competitior will showcase a work within their category. After all the competitiors from a particular category perform, the adjudicators will announce the winner of that category. There will only be 1 winner for each category. After all 3 categories perform and the 3 winners are chosen, the adjudicators (after they diberate) will announce the runner up and overall winner of the competition who will be crowned The 2014 SAVAGES!!!!!

REGISTRATION

Registration fees are determined by how many performers there are in each competing group.

2-5 Dancers $30
6-10 Dancers $45
11-14 Dancers $60
15+ Dancers $75

Groups participating in the pre-professional division pay $30 regardless of the number of dancers.
