Claremont 5 Second Film Festival
The Claremont Community College will host the 6th Annual Claremont 5 Second Film Festival on Thursday May 8, 2014 at the prestigious Laemmle Theatre. The festival showcases films of up to 20 minutes.
The festival includes short films from around the world. The Laemmle Claremont 5 Theatre provides the setting for our movie goers with the eclectic Claremont Village offering a backdrop of fine restaurants, nightspots and stores.
The event brings industry professionals to the city to showcase their work. Guests from around the region are delighted to come to the city noted for the Claremont Colleges and a stimulating cultural environment.
The festival not only provides a forum for filmmakers but also involves student interns from nearby colleges. These interns work on all facets of the festival's production. Many use this work for credit in their academic courses. All of them receive hands-on experience in producing a major event.
The festival has inaugurated a Film Lecture Series. The series brought together media professionals with students and community members.
The festival was started by Claremont Community College. Although not an operating college, Claremont Community College is an IRS recognized not-for-profit organization that provides cultural and educational events.
A major project sponsored by our group is its annual Secret Santa Project. Last year this project hosted more than 160 needy children at Citizens Business Bank Arena where they were treated to a visit from Santa Claus. Each child received gifts and families were provided gift cards to purchase holiday meals. The film festival is a fund raising event to provide this service to these children.
Films in previous years have included Voice Over which appeared in the Tribeca Film Festival, The Crush which was nominated for an Academy Award and The God of Love which won the Oscar for Best Short Film.
