It has been said that music is a language that expresses feelings that words alone cannot convey. They may be passionate, mournful, humorous, hopeful, languorous, desperate, or any number of subtle combinations. Such is the case for the music on this concert, which largely features music by local composers. Bern Herbolsheimer's Love Letters reflect rapture and loneliness alike. Abraham Kaplan and William Billings address both hope and despair in death. Eric Lane Barnes's Lambscapes give a hilarious twist to an old nursery rhyme. Other works use music to delve into deeper meanings in the poetry of William Wordsworth, Robert Burns, and Robert Frost, and their understandings of the human heart.
