The 1940's made way for one of the worlds most noted and controversial Jazz Geniuses. Sarah Vaughan arose from humble beginnings to international Jazz Diva. Her melodic voice and vocal style was her trademark. Sarah's 46 year reign was riddled with unforeseen circumstances and an appetite for excess that caused her to struggle publicly and privately. Her feisty personality dominated, and could be seen on and off stage as she rifts her way through life!

Sarah Lois Vaughan was tagged with the name Sassy, Sailor for her salty speech and The Divine One.  Described by Scott Yanow as having one of the most wondrous voices of the 20th century.  Her life's musical journey begun in church at the tender age of 7 years old.  Instinctively, Sarah seemed to follow a path that lead her straight to stardom, but not without suffering and sacrifice.

This one woman show ''Sassy'' explores some of the most private and rarely discussed issues that plagued Sarah Vaughan. It delves into the mystery of her relationship between music, men, and her image. It allows a closer look at the issues that drove her to both, greatness and despair.
