Derek's career started early in his home state of Indiana at the acclaimed Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre and with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. It was with these humble beginnings a life in improv and theatre was born - while most children have an invisible friend with which they spend their time, Derek was too busy directing invisible casts of thousands in self-written musicals in the driveway of his childhood home. At the age of 12 he was nominated for Child Actor of the Year from the Young Artists' Awards/SAG Awards for the film The Man From Left Field with Burt Reynolds and Reba McEntire followed by four years on Nickelodeon appearing on All That and The Kenan and Kel Show. Derek ended up in the BFA Theatre program at NYU's TISCH School of the Arts and eventually started his professional career as a waiter... I mean, actor. His performance career includes Off-Broadway productions, multiple shows for Walt Disney World, touring the world with Disney Live!, running away with the circus, and performing/directing internationally for the past 15.
