Eye on India and Leadership Story Lab present, An Evening of Story Exchange
A well-known Indian proverb wisely explains, "Tell me a fact and I'll learn. Tell me a truth and I'll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever". Telling stories is how we make sense of the world, connect and relate to others. Sharing and listening to genuine personal stories leads to realizing commonalities and building new relationships, both professionally and personally. This year Eye on India is collaborating with Leadership Story Lab to present a thought-provoking and entertaining storytelling showcase, featuring six short stories about the exchange between Indian and American culture.
Six storytellers will take you behind the scenes in their life, work, and travels, weaving together tales that will live on in your heart long after the final applause. Join us at The Dog's Bollox (3210 N. Lincoln, 60657) on July 11th at 7pm.
Featured Storytellers:
Sarah Cole Kammerer focuses on advancing women's health, specifically in marginalized communities. She was awarded a 2012-13 Fulbright Research Grant to pilot a family planning program among women's groups in tribal communities in rural India. She contributes regularly to Today's Chicago Women Magazine and Gates Foundation Blog, 'Impatient Optimists'. She received her MPH from University of Illinois at Chicago and her BA in Political Science from Virginia Tech.
Dipika Mukherjee is an author, poet, and sociolinguist. She made her debut as a novelist with the publication of Thunder Demons (2011), which was long-listed for the Man Asian Literary Prize and her first poetry collection, The Palimpsest of Exile, was published by Rubicon Press in 2009.
Kareem Khubchandani is a PhD candidate in Performance Studies at Northwestern University researching LGBTQ nightlife in India and the South Asian diasporas. He hosts a queer Bollywood dance night at the Big Chicks bar in Uptown.
Amrita Dhaliwal is an actor and comedian represented by Stewart Talent. Her work has primarily involves theatre and film and comedy. She most recently toured a solo act, called Lady Love, to Fringe Festivals around the U.S..
Andrew Reilly is a journalist, fiction writer, and photographer. His work has appeared in a number of fine publications including The A.V. Club, ALARM, The Angler, HYPERTEXT and others. The founder of the award-winning 35th Street Review, and has co-edited the highly-acclaimed anthology, 'Briefly Knocked Unconscious By A Low-Flying Duck'.
Jim Stevens studied theater and film in Chicago and Paris, and has written and directed work that has been seen at festivals around the country. He has recently been seen in the TEACHERS web series, now distributed by The Onion. He was also seen in a video for Ready, Set Wife. He has performed stories at 2nd Story, This Much Is True, Essay Fiesta, Story Lab Chicago and that's All She Wrote.
Anjal Chande is a bharatanatyam dancer and the Founder/Director of Soham Dance Space in Chicago. She has performed at prestigious venues and festivals around the world including the World Music Festival in Chicago, Dazzle Jazz Club in Denver, Nrtya Sura Bharati Festival at Chinmaya Vibhooti, Pune, National Center for Performing Arts & National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai, and Brahma Gana Sabha & German Hall in Chennai.
