A COMMUNITY COOKS | a grand tasting of the Gulf Coast's Freshest Local Food
The event will be held at The Palafox House in Pensacola, FL on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 2pm to 4pm. Seven talented chefs from the Gulf Coast will be paired with a local farmer and food artisan cooking together to showcase the Gulf Coast's freshest local ingredients.
Participating chefs include: Kiley Bolster, The Magnolia; Mari Josephs, Carmen's Lunch Bar; Jack McNulty, Pensacola Country Club; Irv Miller and Jason Perry, Jackson's Steakhouse; Amber Solnick Rushing; R&R Fine Catering, and Gus Silivos, Nancy's Haute Affairs.
Funds raised will help develop local outreach programs and market them to the public. Our first program will be The Double Value Coupon Program through Wholesome Wave (www.wholesomewave.org) and the Florida Organic Growers Association which we will launch this summer. The program doubles low-income families federal nutrition benefits - SNAP & WIC at local farmers markets. The matched portion is raised through events this like one, grants and corporate donations. The goal is to encourage low income families and those living in food deserts to visit their local market, experience real fresh local food picked right from the field and realize fresh fruits and vegetables are not more expensive when purchased at a farmers market.
