Christopher Michael Palermo // Side Effect
In his most recent monolog Side Effect, Christopher Michael Palermo brings to the stage a startling blend of fiction, semi-fiction, and stark reality. Palermo weaves memoir, essay, raucous comedy, and travelogue together to deliver a powerful tale of loss, grief, outrage, and courage. Side Effect deals with the vicissitudes of widowerhood in a world that confuses 'need' with 'desire'. Palermo shares the discoveries that he has made during his journey as a widower; taking us to Paris, and delivering a searing indictment of 'big pharma' along the way. Directed by veteran actor/writer Ralph Peduto Side Effect is a tightly crafted theatre event. It is also a cautionary tale, full of irony and humor that ultimately reminds us that 'time' carries with it its own healing powers if one is patient enough to trust. Christopher Michael Palermo first performed a monolog in Santa Cruz in 1983; at the Art Center Theater, (Center Stage... only facing the other way). He was a founding member of the Flesh City and Dangerous Neighbors sketch comedy groups and has presented his solo work in the shows Vintage/Nouveau in 2006 and 2008, and most recently Side Effect in Autumn 2012. Side Effect contains strong language, adult themes, and tasteless comedy.
