Of all the natural disasters that could befall us, only an Earth impact by a large comet or asteroid has the potential to wipe out several species in a single blow; just ask the dinosaurs. The recent Chelyabinsk meteorite wasn't the first time people have encountered a Near-Earth Object and it certainly won't be the last.
Don't miss the opportunity to meet Don Yeomans, hear him speak about his work tracking asteroids and comets that could someday collide with Earth, and ask questions about this fascinating topic.
The Society for Planetary Defense invites you to join us on:
Monday, June 3rd - 5:30PM Brookside Country Club 1133 Rosemont Ave Pasadena, CA 91103
Copies of Don's book, Near-Earth Objects: Finding Them Before They Find Us, will be available at the Brookside Country Club, and the author will personally sign each copy purchased there.
This event is free to the public, offers complimentary hors d'oeuvres, and has limited seating.
About the Speaker: Donald K. Yeomans manages NASA's Near-Earth Objects Program Office at JPL, which coordinates the search for and tracking of asteroids and comets passing into Earth's neighborhood to identify possible hazards to Earth. TIME magazine described Don as "one of the reasons we can all sleep a little better at night" as they named him one of their 100 most influential people for 2013.
