The final week of the 27th annual SoHIP Summer Concert Series!
TUESDAY July 30 at St Peter's Church in Weston WEDNESDAY July 31 at the Chapel at West Parish in Andover THURSDAY August 1 at Lindsey Chapel in Boston
Following his election in 1623, Pope Urban VIII elevated his nephew Francesco Barberini to Cardinal. Francesco then used his position to engage in patronage of the arts on a grand scale, employing the finest painters, scultors, architects, and musicians in Italy. Among the musicians in his employ were Girolamo Frescobaldi and Johannes Hieronymus Kapsberger. Child prodigy Frescobaldi is best known for his keyboard works, but his compoitions include vocal monody and instrumental canzoni. Kapsberger was both a virtuoso lutenist and accomplished composer, writing for both his own instrument and for voices. Our program brings together sacred and secular, vocal and instrumental works of these two great composers and performers.
Agnes Coakley (soprano), Nathaniel Cox (cornetto & chitarrone), Ben Katz (harpsichord)
