Piper Theatre Productions is proud to announce it's premiere productions of 10 incredible new one act plays that explore the world of youth. The festival, Smart Plays for Young Actors, is the culmination of a nationwide search for new plays that offer challenging roles for young actors. These plays have been selected from hundres of entries from across the United States and Canada. All presented plays will be New York or world premieres. The production opens on Thursday, June 13th at 7pm at BAX Brooklyn Arts Exchange. Performances continue Friday the 14th and Sunday the 15th at 7pm.
The festival's one-acts are smart, dynamic, quirky, exciting, funny, and disturbing. Smart Plays for Young Actors will present a vital range of theater: a boy protects his gerbil from the zombie apocalypse; a son asks his father to teach him to be a stand-up comic; a mutated girl can see the truth. Original, poignant, hilarious concerning puberty, dating, divorce and loss, these plays are portals into the secret world of children, teens, and their parents.
The Festival will feature Princess Pegasus by Carrie Behrens, Cheeseballs by Jeri Weiss, Driven to Distraction by Matt Crowley, From Funny by Phillip Dawkins, The Glass by Michael Johnson, Little Gerbil Man by Rachel Ewing, Message to Grandma by Claudia Haas, The Best Secret Santa Present Ever in the History of Peckinpaw High School by Ira Gammerman, The Ultimate Battle for Total Control of the Universe by Rich Orloff, and Vintage Quirk by Robert Stevenson and direction by John Mceneny, Marielle Duke, Kelly Klotz, Leigh Poulos, Hollie Michaels, Henry Pines, Ian Odgen, and Olivia Harris.
