Event
The Five Deadly Improvisers at Santa Cruz Improv Fest
In the summer of 2011, five improvisers, who each were accomplished in the San Francisco improv community, had an idea for a new improv group. The goal: to create an ensemble that would perform fully improvised classic Kung Fu movies. The main trait that would distinguish this group was realistic looking stage Kung Fu combat, amble physical movement, dynamic environments, and active chases. The shows are a serious evocation of the genre, not to parody. They have an epic feel. The stories are classic battles of good versus evil, and love lost and won.
The venue that the Five Deadly Improvisers debuted at was the BATS improv Bayfront theater, in the competitive run of improv shows called Cave Match. The ensemble met with praise and accolades. The Five Deadly Improvisers went on to perform four shows at Cave Match, winning three weeks in a row.
Since then, The Five Deadly Improvisers have continued to bring their unique show to audiences across the nation, including the San Francisco Improv Festival, the BATS Summer Improv Festival, the Austin Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, and the Atlanta Black Box Comedy Festival. We look forward to taking the stage again and taking new audiences for a thrilling ride into the world of epic Kung Fu movies.
