Illuminati Congo:
Illuminati Congo is a Chicago based reggae/hip-hop group. Their second full length album, "All Eye See" was released in the Fall of 2011. Vocalist Jahn The Baptist creates an infectious blend of head nodding beats and unexpected subject matter that will have you begging for a rewind! Musical influences range from classic reggae to classic rock creating an equal blend of modern synth-and-sampler driven hip hop and danceable, live band instrumentation. The sound is reminiscent of artists such as Nas and Damian Marley with a hint of Gym Class Heroes thrown in. Instrument solos and "dubs" are mixed throughout, giving the lyrics time to settle in and just feel the rhythm.
Illuminato Congo vocalist Jahn The Baptist is unlike any other musician out there. His lyrics reflect both his practice of spirituality and his embrace of earthly, human desires. Having studied and taught Kundalini Yoga and Rebirthing Breathwork as well as being an avid herbalist in the Rastafarian community, Jahns true goal is to heal. Heal the world of its ills through awareness of self and the practice of unconditional love.
Vocal collaborations include major reggae recording artists: Lee "Scratch" Perry, Big Youth, and Lutan Fyah.
Jah Wave:
Jah Wave was born and raised in Dartmouth Essequibo, a small Black populated village on the north eastern coastline of Guyana. Uniquely, the only English speaking country in South America and formerly known as the "food basket of the Caribbean". Jah Wave's influence in music came at a very young age, growing up with three Rastafarian uncles, who would have friends over almost everyday to have a good vibe with music. With no professional instruments at hand, they would use guitars with most strings missing, beat on bucket bottoms, and shake spoons in glass soda bottles, in order to recreate instrumentals from reggae music coming out of Jamaica. Wave recalls, "I was about three or four years old and they would ask me to freestyle. Of course I would rock it, and they would all stop and cheer me saying", "Yuh bad bai".
From those early days he took his musical talent with him everywhere he went. From the jungle regions of Guyana (where he would go work in the gold mine) free-styling for several hours at a time with friends at jungle shops and night clubs - to Linden, a bauxite mining town up the Demerara river, where he spent most of his childhood summers - to Georgetown, the capital city of his country. Always remembering the support and encouragement he picked up along the way, he decided to start writing his music down and seeking a way for his music to be heard. In 1996, after spending two years in the gold mine he went back to the city and started singing in a small band with his father, who was versatile in building and playing steel pan, and two of his father's brother, who also played guitars and keyboard. They would play at night clubs and bars doing covers of popular reggae songs.
It wasn't until migrating to the United States in 2005 and with encouragement by friends, did it become clear to him that music was his calling. Since moving to California, Jah Wave has been known to emcee popular reggae parties. Being exposed to the reggae community he has found the opportunity to be able to promote his music. Known for his energetic and emotional performances with the conscious lyrical content in his music, and singing about the struggles and blessings we all experience in life, Wave has earned his name as a unique musical talent with something of value to contribute to the reggae music arena. He has a natural gift of connecting, interacting and bringing good positive energy to an audience.
DJ Ital Ra:
Originally from San Clemente, California, DJ Ital Ra has been hosting reggae parties in the Bay Area since 2009. Ital Ra developed his interest in reggae music from an early age, and after traveling throughout the Caribbean and spending time in Belize, he returned to explore his interest in reggae music as a DJ in California. In 2013, Ital Ra returned to Southern California to further extend his missive of reggae music and upful sounds.
