the Juke Hounds
Imagine Elmore James backed by Booker T and the M.G.'s, and you've imagined something like the Juke Hounds: bluesy, funky, soulfuland just a touch modern. The Juke Hounds have played this brand of blues--their brandin northeastern Ohio clubs, and on festival stages including the 2009 Canton Blues Festival, the '09, '10,and 2012 Kent Blues Festivals, and Lock 3. They have opened for numerous national acts including Taj Mahal Johnny Winter, Michael Burks, Junior Brown, Shannon Curfman, and Cactus. In November 2010, they won the band category at the Cleveland Blues Society's 2nd Annual Blues Challenge, and thereby earned a trip to play in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee, where they played in February of 2011. They released their initial CD "Low Man on the Totem Pole" in May of 2012, about which "Buzzbin" magazine opined: "At their shows, the lively band covers a slew of classic tunes from the likes of Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters in addition to their own brand of authentic blues...The guys are obviously well versed in the catchy music they write and perform, and "Low Man on the Totem Pole" is an example of how to do blues right. With repetitive hooks and toe-tapping rhythms, the band is pure fun and are experts at their craft."
