"Sweet Karma" is a work of fiction inspired by true events. A doctor survives the brutal Khmer Rouge regime, wins an Oscar for his role in "The Killing Fields," and then is gunned down on the streets of L.A. The play jumps back and forth in time from the moment of his death, to his early life in Cambodia, the courtship of his wife, and the making of the movie that made him a national hero.
"Sweet Karma" is produced by the same team (director, producer & designers) that created "Film Chinois" (winner of the LA Ovation Award for Best New Play); "Blakeda Musical!" (winner of the LA Ovation Award for Best New Musical) and "Eternal Equinox" (Off-Broadway run at the 59E59 Theaters last March).
The play is written by Henry Ong. A couple of his past plays are "Madam Mao's Memories" (produced in L.A., San Diego at the Old Globe Theater, London, Singapore and Edinburgh) and "Fabric" (produced by Company of Angels in L.A., the Singapore Repertory Theatre, and the Nomad Theatre in Surrey, England). An earlier version of "Sweet Karma" was produced by Queens Theatre in the Park in New York in 2010.
