Eastside Forum
In a world where we may feel like spectators, watching as situations seem to unravel beyond our control, Living Stages invites the audience to stop the course of the action of the play mid-scene. By stepping onto the stage to enact solutions, the audience becomes empowered to change the story, to find new possibilities, and search for opportunities that offer very real opportunities for change. The play becomes a rehearsal for reality.

Created and developed by residents of 82nd Avenue, under direction of Living Stages Artistic Director Tamara Lynne, Eastside Forum is an interactive forum theatre performance exploring issues of connection and disconnection, exclusion, and social justice within a neighborhood setting. Each scene is created from real-life experiences of the Eastside Forum ensemble. After seeing the play once, audience members will be invited to stop the action of the play and step onto the stage to try out solutions to the issues presented.

Forum Theatre is a form of interactive theatre developed by Brazilian theatre director and activist Augusto Boal, author of "Theatre of the Oppressed", a body of work that is now practiced in over 200 countries around the world.

Living Stages is a theatre organization based in Portland Oregon, committed to the practice of Theatre of the Oppressed as a process of community reflection, empowerment, and action.  Members of the Eastside Forum Ensemble include: Carolyn Anderson, Taiga Christie, Elizabeth Fischer, Shelly Hines, David Houston, Cat Jones, Evelyn Liu, Melanie Lockert, Jadene Mayla, Sara McWilliams, Stanley Moy, Darlene Solomon, David Vargas, and Roger Warren.

This performance is made possible in partnership with Montavilla Neighborhood Association, and through grants from Regional Arts and Culture Council and from Southeast Uplift Small Neighborhood Grants Program.
