The Howard 100 and Howard 101 SiriusXM Radio stations are like magnets for impossibly weird, hilarious and lovable characters. A contingent of these personalities is headed to the Palace Theater of Syracuse.
Through his unique combination of roughness and sweetness, Ronnie Mund, also known as Ronnie the Limo Driver, found his way from the driver's seat to the broadcast booth in the late '80s and became a fan favorite in the ensuing decades. In 2011, Mund began touring with fellow radio personalities and like-minded entertainers, JD Harmeyer, Shuli, Maddog Mattern, and John Tole, as the Ronnie Mund Block Party.
The tour started small, and has rapidly picked up momentum. In January, the Block Party sold out the largest room at Harrah's Atlantic City after a poker tournament hosted by Mund. March found the whole crew in Jamaica for a fan immersion experience. After four packed shows in Boston, the tour will make it's Upstate NY debut in May. It's also likely to be its last stop in the area. The tour has grown too big for its britches and attracted the ire of the lead performers' employer.
The Block Party is essentially a variety show fueled by the chemistry between the young Harmeyer and seasoned Mund. Like the radio audience that follows them, the performers are a seemingly divergent cross-section of culture, all tied together with a love for telling it how it is.
Shuli Egar, the tour's headlining comedian, actually got his start in radio as a fan. Through an on-air challenge and a game of blackjack in Vegas, Shuli ultimately became a Howard 100 News reporter. He and his Block Party accomplices, the uber-confrontational Maddog Mattern, metalhead John Tole, and the hot and filthy Danielle Steel, relish the chance to meet and mock fans all across the country.
