ASA Summer Arts Institute
ASA Summer Arts Institute takes place over three weeks: June 10-17, June 17-21, and June 24-28.
* STUDENTS MAY ONLY SELECT and ATTEND ONE CLASS PER WEEK! Be sure to only register for one class per week and be sure you register for the correct dates for classes offered multiple weeks.

PRE CAMP Hours: Young artists who need to arrive before 8:45am may purchase pre camp hours for $35/week. Pre Camp hours are from 7:30am - 9:00am.
POST CAMP Hours: Young artists who need to stay after our 3:30 dismissal time may purchase post camp hours for $35/week. Post Camp hours are from 3:30pm - 5:30pm
VISUAL ARTS
Fiber Art Spend a week getting creative with yarn! Learn how to knit, crochet, weave, and make many other creative items. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or pro - there is something for all. No experience necessary. GRADES: 5-12, maximum 20 students. Instructor: Ms. Anthony. Offered Week 1 Only.
Found Object Art Students will use reclaimed and recycled materials to create paintings, sculpture, and mixed media art. Students will find inspiration and direction though online research, collaboration, and hands on activities. Students will learn basic principles of color theory; use of paints, stains and varnish; wire work; and how to scavenge and repurpose materials safely. No experience necessary. GRADES: 5-12, maximum 20 students. Instructor: Mr. McGeHee.
MUSIC Percussion Stomp Learn some cool rhythms and percussive beats on everyday objects like trash cans, buckets and more! As an ensemble, you will create a percussion and movement performance that will STOMP it's way across the ASA campus. Any level welcome. Grades 5-12, maximum 20 students. Instructor: Ms. Guzman. Week 1 ONLY.
Write Your Song Students will create different types of music through hands-on, engaging activities that connect to other disciplines including drawing, painting, and creative writing. Participants will actively take part in creating and playing music, with no prior musical or instrumental training required. At the end of the week the ensemble will perform the culmination of their work. No experience necessary. Grades 5-8, maximum 20 students. Instructor: Ms. Kurbat. Offered Week 1 & 3 only.
Drum Set Spend the week learning to play the drums! During this course students will learn basic drumming technique as well as instruction on how to play the drum set. Student will receive hands on training in how to play popular grooves for rock, funk, jazz and more! Must be able to read music. Grades 5-12, maximum 12 students. Instructor, Ms. Guzman. Offered Week 2 ONLY.
Flute Choir Have you ever wanted to play a piccolo, alto, or bass flute? Play with flutists of all ages and even write your own music in the ASA Summer Flute Choir! Musicians will put together a fun and exciting concert at the end of the week. The group will compose a piece of music together and will engage in other fun and exciting projects. PRE-REQUISITES: entering 7th-12th grade. Played flute for at least 1 full year. Maximum students: 20. Instructor: Ms. Anthony. Offered Weeks 2 & 3.
Strings This week-long course will focus on developing improvisation skills and aural implementation, or the ability to play by ear. In this course, students are encouraged to rely on natural rhythm and pitch recall skills (everyone's got 'em) to develop a fun, creative, and personalized approach to playing their instruments. Experimentation is required! Bowed string instrumentalists only (violin, viola, cello, bass - no guitar or harp) Grades 7-12, with at least 1 year of playing experience. Instructor: Ms. Wuenschel. Offered Weeks 2 & 3.
THEATRE Musical Theatre Sing, dance and generally have a great time learning songs and choreography from this popular musical theatre production. Students will also create simple hand props and costume accessories for an end of the week performance and will participate in theatre games and improvisation too! Grades 5-8, maximum 20 students. Instructors: Ms. Whiting, Musical Director and Ms. Baggelman, Choreographer. Different Musicals offered each week for a new experience all 3 weeks! Improvisation Students will learn skills in both short and long form improvisation. Not only helpful for the aspiring theatre performer, improv skills come in handy for job and college interviews, and a variety of real-life situations. The class includes familiar activities from "Whose Line is It Anyway" to more obscure techniques of professional improv companies. You'll be laughing and enjoying every moment of this class! No experience necessary. Grades 9-12, maximum 20 students. Instructor: TBD. Offered Week 2 Only.
REFUND POLICY: For each week of Summer Arts Institute and for each camper, there is a non-refundable, non-transferable processing/holding fee of $30.
No refunds will be issued for any camper or class beginning May 1 for any reason.
If ASA Summer Arts Institute must cancel a program offering and cannot find a suitable alternative programming option that the registered student would like to attend, we will issue a full refund.
