Governance Assessment Strategies

We all know it is important to assess performance. In the 2010 BoardSource Nonprofit Governance Index it was reported that 71% of the boards studied conduct formal, written performance evaluations of their CEOs. Unfortunately, only half the boards had assessed their own performance in the past three years.

Nonprofit boards have a heavy responsibility, especially for financial resources given by the communities they serve. If for no other reason, well performing boards must measure their performance against relevant sector standards on a regular basis.
