GALEN (Sunset, SF)
Galen founded Sunset Sound System by setting up a generator and speakers at a park in Berkeley, California every sunday to spin records he didnt get a chance to play anywhere else. Word spread and soon many hundreds of people were dancing and picnicking while watching the sun set behind the San Francisco skyline. Today, Sunset Sound System is on the move with incredible boat and outdoor parties as well as the annual Sunset Campout Festival.
Galen developed his signature sound through these weekly jams and as well as his technically proficient yet fluid dj style. The psychedelic music scene of 90s San Francisco provided a launching point to his extensive vinyl collection the spans many genres from classic disco to post-punk to roots reggae and modern house music. His sets can travel a diverse range yet maintain a conscious groove of cohesiveness, always appropriate to the time and place. They are thoughtful, yet never pre-planned, with artfully-timed track selections that spark any dance floor, appealing to the old school just as much as the new.
Music productions have become a more frequent mode of expression for Galen. Release collaborations with Claude Von Stroke, Justin Martin, Lopazz, and Shiny Objects having laid the foundation to new solo endeavors. A handful exist now and are becoming more frequent as his bass & groove laden production style becomes more defined.
ATISH (Manjumasi, SF)
The Atish experience: dynamic, emotive, ecstatic. Yet it is more than the sounds emanating from the speakers, it is also the man behind the decks: warm, compassionate, inviting. He is an entertainer and a catalyst: a magician who mixes deep melodies and sophisticated rhythms into musical journeys.
Based in San Francisco, Atish has cultivated a devoted following around the world. Hes a natural performer who engages crowds with charm, a smile, and possibly a wig and a tutu. An obsessive music collector, Atish pulls from a broad sonic palette, and with these sounds he creates intimate atmospheres and emotional experiences that linger in your mind long after the music has stopped.
Atishs passion goes far beyond the decks as well. As cofounder of the Manjumasi record label, Atish has created an outlet for other artists music as well as his own playful productions. He also hosts his own Late Night Tonite! Party series, which combines a sit-down talk show interview with an all-night dance party. This format provides a richer context for the music and strengthens the emotional bonds between the audience and the artist. For Atish, it allows him to experiment with what dance music is and what it can be.
Intimacy and connection are the foundations of the Atish experience. His multiple residencies speak to Atishs ability to resonate with any crowd and highlight the range of his sound. From the blissed-out festival vibes of Desert Hearts, to the big city sophistication of New Yorks The Cityfox Experience, and the small club coziness of Miamis Do Not Sit On The Furniture, Atish brings people together with music and passion.
This passion can be heard on Atishs numerous DJ mixes found on Soundcloud. A prolific mixer, Atish finds the DJ mix the perfect format to create compelling narratives of rhythm and sound. Scrolling through his extensive catalog of mixes, one can hear an artist devoted to the music and dedicated to the perfection of his craft.
