Brush Up on Character
1 of 4 Playwriting Intensives offered to professional and new playwrights (or screenwriters) who want to brush up on Character (and later intensives on Venom & Surprise; and Diagnostics & Dramaturgy) in order to start new projects or move forward with what they are working on already.

Character is often taken for granted, especially in the theatre where a live actor will embody the character and bring them to life, but there is so much we as writers can do to enhance our characters and help give them that well-rounded 3-dimensionality that we love in our favorite characters from the shows we admire and the books we love. This intensive will help you with new tools for creating living fully-realized characters in a fun, inventive and inspiring afternoon!

Emma Goldman-Sherman earned her MFA from the University of Iowa and has had work produced in NYC at CSV by All Out Arts Inc, and by Manhattan Theatre Source, 1MPF, the Circle Rep Lab, New Georges, The Women's Project, and Take One Prods.; regionally with The Every 28 Hours Play; in San Francisco at Golden Thread as part of the ReOrient Festival of plays about the Middle East; in LA with EST; in Kansas City at The Hall Gallery; in London at Canal Cafe Theatre and in Zagreb at the Yunus Emre Enstitusu. Her work has been developed by Dixon Place, New Circle Theatre Co., The Millay Colony for the Arts, Ragdale, and twice at WordBridge where she returned as a dramaturg. She has taught and worked as a dramaturg for The Great Plains Theatre Conference and many others. She is the founder and Resident Dramaturg at the 29th Street Playwrights Collective where she runs the Write Now Workshop. She also teaches for New York Writers Workshop and others.
