Heart in the Park Picnic
Help address and resolve hunger in our community! Join us for an afternoon picnic featuring local food artisans, live music, food demonstrations, community garden tours, and a nature walk - all at the beautiful Rock Creek Park in Stevenson.
100% of profits will support free cooking and food education workshops for families of Washington Gorge Action Programs' food bank in Stevenson!!
Here's what we're cooking up for our first annual Heart in the Park Picnic:
The Purpose
1) To increase our membership, volunteer-base, and ability to fund and facilitate free cooking and food education workshops to families of Washington Gorge Action Programs Food Bank.
2) To encourage residents to actively participate in reducing the growing concern of food scarcity among our neighbors. It truly takes a village!
The Plate
Smoked cheeses, home-baked breads and crackers, fruit preserves/chutneys/curds, pork charcuterie, smoked fish, grilled and pickled vegetables, herb-infused oils/syrups/sauces, seasonal fruit, wild edibles, specialty desserts, and more seasonal deliciousness.

The People
You and your family! Our hope is that you will see this as a way to participate in ending community hunger. Did you know that almost half of Gorge youth qualify for free or reduced lunch programs? And did you also know that 3 of 5 of our neighbors worry whether they'll have food, and that 1 of 5 actually does not? These numbers are especially alarming with Winter approaching, and especially because this community has the means and the heart to do something about this very real and very concerning issue.
The Path
Heart Journey Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit based in Stevenson since 2009, is focusing its efforts on food insecurity in Skamania County. In partnership with Washington Gorge Action Programs' Food Bank in Stevenson, we are providing free cooking and food education workshops on an ongoing basis. We need your participation, and the support of the community, to raise awareness and funds to achieve our goal.
