Looking + Drawing with Color
Looking + Drawing is a 6 week instructed drawing course, appropriate for any level of visual artist, who is interested in drawing and perception. Some drawing experience is helpful but not required.
The focus of the Fall series is characteristics of color (hue, value, saturation, tint, shade, temperature) and how we organize them. Composition, 2D and illusionary space, relational color, and color mixing will all be considered as students use dry and water-based pastels and pencils provided by the museum. Modest homework will be assigned in order to provide a foundational, and common understanding/language by which we can begin a perceptual study of color. Students may also provide their own materials if they have some they are particularly interested in using. Subject matter will be still life, self-portrait, and copies of paintings.
This 6 week series will meet Tuesday evenings, September 19 through October 24 from 6:30-8:30pm in the 2nd floor classroom at BIMA. As the art museum is closed at this time, please enter the building at the side door marked 100 Ravine Lane.
Looking + Drawing is taught by Erik Peterson, who holds an MFA from American University. Erik has taught drawing, painting, and color theory at schools ranging from Pratt Fine Art Center in Seattle to the Maryland College of Art and Design.
$160.00 for the 6 week series pass. Price includes all materials and tools.
