The Reformation at 500
The Reformation at 500 Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra, Jennifer Roig-Francoli, concertmaster The Beecher Singers, Dr. Michelle Louer, director
The Beecher Singers join the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra in a concert which could only happen in 2017 - a commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.
Martin Luther, on October 31, 1517, nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Schlosskirche (castle church) in Wittenburg, Germany, and the course of history changed forever.
Works by great Lutheran composers, such as Bach, Pachelbel, and Buxtehude, take center stage. The IBO plays Bachs Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, with harpsichordist Thomas Gerber, violinist Jennifer Roig-Francoli, and flutist Leela Breithaupt. An excursion out of the Baroque Era is the Beecher Singers a cappella performance of Mendelssohn.
