The History of Rasta Wear Affair!
The concept of Rasta Wear Fashion Affair (RWFA) came to light over 10 years ago. After moving to Saint Paul from Trinidad, Trinny Cee noticed that there wasnt many Afro Caribbean focused Fashion shows in the twin cities. She created the event with the mission and purpose to not only display her beautiful exotic roots and culture, but to also allow others who were locally based have a platform to expose their brand and products. Every year the event must incorporate a collection that has Red, God and Green in the pieces. The reason I used the title Rasta Wear is to connect with the colors Red Gold and Green that are deeply rooted and connected to not only the Caribbean Islands but Africa!
Red- Represented the blood of the Rastafaris which was spilt in their fight for freedom against opponents.
Yellow- Represented gold: used this to symbolically describe the wealth of Africa.
Green- This represented the land: the forests and nature the beautiful nature of Africa.
These are the very same colors of the Marcus Garvey movement back in the early 1900s.
I have had the honor to host this event at Red Sea, Blue Nile and Arnellias. Over the years, we have incorporated several local upcoming talented designers, artists and models. We feature models of all shapes, sizes, colors and gender. I also ALWAYS connect this event to include everyone! Its about our community! All our welcome. RWFA has Given people a chance to share in the visual culture of the Caribbean Islands & All parts of Africa. The event includes Fashion, Performances, Vendors, Food and an energetic After Party that includes Reggae & Dancehall Music.
This years event Theme is Vibrant Colors that will be hosted at the Red Sea.
We will have collections designed by GLAD HOUSE & RuvaAfric which will also host Pop Up Shops at the venue.
Live performance will be by Reggae Artiste Princeton Brown.
The After Party will include International Reggae DJ Dr Dre from Renaissance Sound based of Kingston, Jamaica and local Jamaican Dj Muscle Man.
