Session 1 ONLINE - Birthworker Inclusivity Training Series
Basics of sexual pleasure in the childbearing year - A look at pre-pregnant, pregnant and postpartum anatomy, and how the changes impact sexual health and pleasure. Among healthcare providers in our society, attitudes about sexual pleasure often range from dismissive at best to disgusted at worst. Because of this, many people utilizing healthcare choose to keep details about their sexuality to themselves, even when some intervention may be helpful. Our first session will explore sexuality during the childbearing year through two different lenses. Well take about the anatomical and hormonal changes that take place throughout those 12-ish months. Well also discuss cultural norms and assumptions that new and expecting parents have to confront in their communities and within themselves. This session will also briefly discuss sexual dysfunction, some solutions, and when to refer for more extensive care.
B.I.T.S. program overview:
Birthworkers are in a singular position to provide respectful, inclusive care to diverse families. When a new family is celebrated for its uniqueness, rather than encouraged to fit in or hide, they are able to thrive together with dignity. Facilitating families that are free from shame should be high on our list of objectives as birthworkers.
This six part training will provide insight and context for working with families where one or both parents are sexual minorities. For a variety of reasons, these people are unable to be transparent with other healthcare providers. Because we know that the best care, and especially the best outcomes, are achieved through frank, honest communication, it is vital that we strive to include as many members of our community as possible. Empowering, uplifting births are possible for all people, regardless of gender, orientation, relationship status, vocation, or previous life experiences.
You can register to take this training in person and online. In person and online sessions will be held simultaneously. If you have missed some of the sessions, but still want to register for the whole series, you will be given access to the recordings of the earlier sessions.
Regular tickets are $30 per session, or $150 if you register for the entire series (a savings of $30). Student tickets are $15 per session, or $75 if you register for the entire series (a savings of $15).
A total of 18 DONA continuing education contact hours have been applied for - 3 per session.
